Toxicological evaluation is more and more developing towards in silico methods, which ensure speed, costeffectiveness and automatisms during the process of collection of toxicological data.
The Life VERMEER project has the ambitious goal to increase and promote the use of in silico methods to carry out the risk assessment and the subsequent substitution of risky chemicals.
For the cosmetic case study two specific tools have been developed:
SpheraCosmolife, able to offer simultaneously an estimation of the hazard and a detailed investigation of the exposure scenarios, providing a "complete" risk assessment of cosmetic ingredients in one click, offering a novel perspective in the field of cosmetics safety assessment.
ToxEraser Cosmetics, a tool designed to substitute risky chemicals used as cosmetic ingredients with safer alternatives, taking into consideration both chemical structure and cosmetic function.
Furthermore, we are going to present a case study of the migration of chemicals from the packaging to the cosmetic product using SpheraFCM, a tool designed for the evaluation of food contact materials.
SpheraCosmolife, ToxEraser Cosmetics and SpheraFCM have been developed within the EC funded LIFE project VERMEER, coordinated by Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri" and with Angel Consulting as one of the beneficiary partners.
